BROKEN PROMISES

Has anyone ever broken a promise they made to you? Broken promises can be disheartening yet they occur everyday. Husbands and wives break the promises they made on their wedding day everyday. Politicians make promises and never fulfill them. Friends quickly become “fake friends” by breaking promises. Although keeping a promise has become a seldom act without no remorse these days, God still keeps His promises to His people.

There are about 3573 promises in the Bible. The word “promise” appears over 50 times in the King James translation. God’s promises include promises of provision, supply, joy, strength, healing, courage, salvation, forgiveness, to never leave you, and the list goes on. Everything God has promised, He will do. Jesus never fails.

Joshua 21:43-45 “So the Lord gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there. The Lord gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the Lord gave all their enemies into their hands. Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.”

You cannot think about God’s promises without thinking about His faithfulness. Because He is faithful, He stands by His promises. His promises are unbreakable because of His faithfulness. Max Lucado says, “Because His promises are unbreakable, our hope is unshakeable.” What a true statement that is. His faithfulness gives us hope. God is not a God of broken promises. We can trust that He will come through on all of His promises.

Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?”

HE IS FAITHFUL! Doubt of His promises comes when God doesn’t work on our timeline. We have set in our mind how and when God should act and fulfill His promises based on our circumstances. God sees the bigger picture. He sees what we cannot see. He knows what we do not know. Even when things don’t happen when and how we think we need them, faith says “He will come through. He will be on time. He will not fail. Still I will trust in the God of my salvation.” Not only is God perfect, His promises and His ways are perfect. His way is always better than our own. When we believe wholeheartedly that God will not fail us, we can rest even in the most turbulent storms that life or the enemy throws our way. The old hymn says: Standing on the promises, I cannot fall Listening every moment to the Spirit's call Resting in my Savior as my all in all Standing on the promises of God Today, stand firm on His promises. If you don’t know what His promises are, search the scriptures for all that He has promised. When all is said and done, you will be able to echo Joshua 21:45 and say: “Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to me failed; every one was fulfilled.” Surely He is not a God of broken promises.
