Laugh Out Loud

Shark movies with my wife make some indescribable and hilarious memories. A few nights ago we decided to go on a late night date night to see the movie The Meg. We had been wanting to see it since the trailer came out because she loves shark movies. Some of her favorite movies are the Jaws movies. Every time she watches one, it’s as if she’s watching it for the first time. We are sitting in the theater talking before the movie started. We agreed on and laughed at two facts.

  1. She would scream during the movie because sharks scare her.

  2. I would laugh at her screaming.

Both of those things most certainly happened. Before a shark was even seen on the screen, she was screaming, and I was laughing. The screaming and laughing hit their peak at the wrong moment. She screamed her loudest and jumped higher than I’ve seen her jump in a movie while holding our popcorn. Of course popcorn went flying everywhere. I laughed so hard. We laughed for hours after the movie was over and continued to laugh about it the next day. As a matter of fact, I’m still laughing about it as I write this. Life will often throw situations at you that will make you want to scream. If life doesn’t, the devil certainly will. The world is so full of craziness, ridiculousness, sin, and difficult seasons. It seems there is so much to keep you constantly on edge. So what do you do? One thing you should do is laugh! Laugh daily! Laugh often.

Proverbs 17:22 says “A merry heart (laughter) doeth good like a medicine.”

Find things to laugh at. Learn to laugh at yourself. Laugh at difficult situations. Laugh at the devil because you know you win! Learn to laugh. Laugh out loud. Laugh hard. There’s so many things we deal with in the world today that irritate us or that can bring discouragement. So how do we overcome these things? We spend time in God’s Word. We learn it and live it. We spend time in worship daily. We pray and build our relationship with the Lord. We connect with the body of Christ in church and ministry. On top of all of these nonnegotiables, we laugh.

Ecclesiastes chapter three tells us there is a time for every thing. Verse four tells us there is a time to laugh.

“a time to weep and a time to LAUGH, a time to mourn and a time to DANCE,” ‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭3:4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

People are way too busy to do things that are really important whether it’s going to church, praying, reading the Word, or laughing. Whatever your facing today, whatever your schedule is, make sure you take time to laugh. Laugh hard and laugh out loud!
