WORSHIP
Worship Teaching
Don’t be just a worship leader. Be a Worship Pastor. Teach your people about worship. Show them how to worship. Be an example of worship. Teach the people of your church to applaud God, and not a song. Pastor the worshipers in your church, and raise up more worshipers. Teach people that worship is more than an event or activity. It’s a lifestyle.
ELEMENTS OF WORSHIP
Genesis 22:1-8 “And it came to pass after these things, that God tested Abraham.
He said to him, “Abraham!”
“Here I am,” he replied.
Then He said, “Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about.”
Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.”
Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”
“Yes, my son,” Abraham replied.
The fire and the wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”
Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.
Did you know that music is mentioned in the Bible 839 times? Yet the first time “worship” or any form of the word “worship” is mentioned in the Bible is in our text Genesis 22:5 and yet it has nothing to do with music.
Nine Elements of Worship
1. TESTING - v. 1
2. RELATIONSHIP – v. 1 We must know God’s voice.
3. JOURNEY – v. 2 True worship will take us from where we are to where God is. It takes us from our humanity into His presence.
4. OFFERING (Giving) – v. 2 Worship is inappropriate without giving. Tithing is an act of responsibility and obedience, not love. An offering is the demonstration of love.
5. OBEDIENCE – v. 3b Delayed obedience is disobedience.
6. PREPARATION – v. 3 There are some things no one can do for you. You have to do it on your own. YOU MUST PREPARE FOR WORSHIP!
EX. The 10 virgins
7. SEPERATION – v. 5 Sometimes God will ask us to do something that will require us to get rid of some people.
If Abraham would have taken the other young men with him, they may have tried to stop his worship. You have to be careful because people will hinder and try to stop your worship.
YOU NEED TO LET GO OF WHAT GOT YOU WHERE YOU ARE BECAUSE IT WILL NOT GET YOU WHERE YOU NEED TO BE!
8. WILLINGNESS TO SUFFER – v. 6 Don’t you know it had to kill Abraham inside to lay that wood on Isaac knowing what he was about to do.
Sometimes the Holy Spirit destroys, changes, & purifies. We have to be willing to lay ourselves on the altar, or the spiritual operating table for God to do what He wants to do in us.
9. ABSOLUTE TRUST IN GOD – v. 5 & 8 You have to understand that God knows what He is doing. When you trust Him, it is much easier to let Him operate on you. But know that God will replace what He takes with something He wants you to have.
